How to Elevate Your Style with Necklace Layering
When putting together an outfit, even the smallest detail like your necklace can make a big impact on the overall appearance. This season, accessorizing is more important than ever and the timeless elegance of necklaces takes the spotlight. Whether you are dressing up for a formal event or looking to add a touch of glam to your everyday outfit, mastering the art of necklace layering is the ultimate trend to embrace this Spring/Summer season, and here are some creative ways to style your necklaces.
Stack Pendants
Layering necklaces is not the only way to make your accessories stand out, and you can make a bold statement by also stacking multiple pendants on a single chain. Much like with the famous Pandora charm bracelets, necklaces allow you to experiment with different combinations until you find a stack that speaks to your personal style. Choose pendants of varying shapes, sizes, and textures to create visual interest and dimension: this technique will create a look that is both elegant and dramatic.
One of my personal favourites is to create a unique and personal pendant necklace, usually involving an initial charm, a birth date month stone, and engraved pieces. They all work to create a totally unique piece!
Add Cultural Elements
Adding cultural elements such as pendants to your layered necklaces is a thoughtful way to showcase your heritage and make your style have more depth and significance. For example, Celtic pendants make an excellent addition to a layered necklace, as they feature symbols that represent wishes for good luck, power, the connection to your ancestors, and even religious symbols. Incorporating a Celtic pendant, like the ones from Gaelsong on your necklaces is a stylish way to feel closer to your roots while looking chic at the same time. I’m always about unique and personal touches.
Mix the Metals
Growing up, we were told to never mix metals if we want to look classy and elegant, but thankfully gone are those days when sticking to one metal was the norm. This season, try your hand at mixing various metals to create a dynamic and eye-catching look. For instance, you can pair a delicate silver chain with a chunky gold pendant for a chic vibe, or experiment with rose gold, copper, and even brass to add depth and dimension to your ensemble. The key is to strike the perfect balance between different hues and textures to create a stylish and edgy aesthetic. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s all about experimenting.
Play with Layers
You can also elevate your necklace game by playing with different lengths and layering techniques. Start with a short choker or collar necklace as your base and layer longer chains or pendants of varying lengths on top: this will create a visually stunning ‘waterfall’ effect that will add a touch of intrigue and drama to your outfit. Additionally, you can mix and match delicate strands with bolder statement pieces to make a look that will reflect your personality and character. I tend to like 2 layers, and no more than 3, as it can be overwhelming, but each chain should vary in length and then it’s perfect.
Incorporate Oversized Pieces
When it comes to necklace layering, sometimes bigger is better, and you can make a bold statement by incorporating oversized necklaces into your ensemble for a look that’s guaranteed to turn heads. When creating your next look, opt for chunky chains, oversized pendants, and statement-making bib necklaces that will transform even the simplest of outfits into memorable ensembles. Just make sure they work with the outfit that you have on and they’re not overwhelming the entire thing!
