Summer Outfits For Every Event
Summer is fast approaching, meaning it’s time to dig out that summer wardrobe. If yours needs a bit of an overhaul this year, this little guide to summer outfits for every event will help you figure out what to wear when the outdoor celebrations start!
Knowing what types of dresses suit you, and having the confidence to wear things that you feel fantastic in, will ensure you have a summer you’ll love and remember. I did a post recently on how to get your summer wardrobe ready, and this article elaborates on the looks you can create for different events.
Garden Party
Summer is garden party season and whether you’re hosting or have been invited to one, this is a great opportunity to have some fun in the sun with friends and family and, of course, show off your summer wardrobe.
If your garden party has a specific theme or dress code, you’ll want to tailor your outfit to fit, otherwise garden party fashion is all about mixing comfort and style. Bold patterns and bright colours are always a good choice, whether you lean towards florals, botanicals or even a nautical aesthetic.
Opt for lightweight materials that will help you stay cool when the sun is shining, but bear in mind that the evenings can quickly turn cool, so it’s a good idea to incorporate layers, such as a jacket, cardigan, shawl or wrap for after dark.
Maxi dresses are perfect for garden parties, as they’re loose and comfortable while still looking stylish. A brightly coloured or patterned jumpsuit is another fantastic option. Or for a more casual vibe, palazzo trousers and a loose-fitting blouse works well too.
Delicate, lightweight jewellery or bright, funky pieces can be used to complete the look. When it comes to footwear, think practical and comfortable – no one wants their heel stuck in someone’s lawn! Opt for ballet flats, sandals or wedges to avoid embarrassment.
Picnic
Picnics are a long-standing British tradition, whether you’re picnicking with a group of friends, your bestie or on a date, you’ll want to be looking and feeling your best.
Picnics have had their own glow-up lately, with more emphasis on activities to enjoy alongside the food, such as painting, grown-up scavenger hunts and team games so you’ll want to make sure you dress accordingly if you’ve got activities planned.
Depending on the time of day, you could opt for plain linen trousers and a sleeveless blouse or if your picnic will be later in the day, there are lots of great evening dresses for a picnic. Day-to-night styles like wrap dresses, midi dresses and t-shirt dresses can work well for a look that’s not too dressy for daytime but stylish enough for an evening soiree.
When it comes to footwear, it’s best to keep things practical. Flat sandals, trainers or pumps will keep you comfortable during your search for the perfect picnic spot.
Bottomless Brunch
Bottomless brunch is one I needed to include even though I personally don’t drink, but it’s a really common event when the sun is shining. For events like this, you want a casual but fun vibe, after all, when you’re day drinking with the girls you never know what might happen, but I caution you to be safe!
A pair of comfortable jeans can be elevated with a dressy top and heels. On the other hand, if you’re planning a shopping spree afterwards, you might want to opt for a comfortable dress that won’t feel restrictive around your waist. A simple slip dress can work wonders when paired with white trainers or ankle boots that will be comfortable for hitting the shops post brunch.
